Intraoral Camera

Intraoral Camera

At Eastpoint Dental, we have numerous technological devices that we can use to help you take care of your oral health. One of the biggest examples is an intraoral camera. We need to understand what is happening in your mouth, and there may be situations where we need to take special images to detect problems that we cannot see with the naked eye. We can use an intraoral camera to take a closer look at dental structures, ensuring we do not miss anything.

Why Do We Use an Intraoral Camera?

We use the latest dental technology to provide you with the best possible oral health care. That includes relying on an intraoral camera. Our intraoral camera is significantly more accurate than other imaging modalities. Even though we certainly use digital impressions and digital X-rays, there are some situations where we might need to take a live, real-time image of what is happening in your mouth.

Sure, there are some situations where we might use a mirror, but an intraoral camera is significantly more accurate. We can use the illumination of the camera to take videos of your mouth. We can identify chipped or cracked teeth, get a better image of damaged fillings, and monitor the formation of plaque and tartar. Then, we can use the information we collect to provide you with a defined treatment plan.

How Might This Camera Be Used?

There are several ways that we might use this camera to take an image of what is happening in your mouth. Some of the most common applications include:

  • We frequently use this camera as a part of oral health screenings to identify lesions or tumors that we might otherwise overlook.
  • We can also use an intraoral camera to track the progress of a variety of conditions. If we are trying to monitor a chronic health condition, we can use the camera to monitor any changes over time.
  • We can use this camera to identify problematic areas of your mouth. Then, we can use this information to coordinate your care, letting the hygienist or dentist know exactly what needs to be done to improve your oral health.
  • We might also be interested in using an intraoral camera to monitor various dental appliances, including crowns, bridges, and braces. We want to make sure they are functioning as they should.

These are just a few common ways we might use an intraoral camera.
